Qrazy Menu is an experimental visual design project created shortly after the public release of DALL·E 2. The project explores the potential of early text-to-image artificial intelligence within visual communication and editorial design.

Due to the unstable visual consistency of early generative models, significant manual intervention was required throughout the creative process. Individual food elements, architectural references, and cultural motifs were carefully selected, curated, and composed to establish coherent visual narratives. Particular attention was given to maintaining stylistic unity between the generated dishes and the architectural forms derived from different cultural contexts.

Rather than relying solely on AI-generated outputs, the project adopted a hybrid workflow that combined prompt-based image generation with human-directed visual editing and composition. The resulting menu transforms food into speculative visual experiences while reflecting on the evolving relationship between designer and machine.

One of the major challenges of the project was the lack of visual consistency in early text-to-image models. Similar prompts could generate dramatically different results, making it difficult to establish a coherent visual language across the menu. Rather than relying on repeated generations to achieve consistency, the project developed a research-based framework to guide the creative process.

Historical symbols, architectural references, artifacts, and food ingredients were examined to identify shared structural characteristics, material qualities, and cultural meanings. These relationships became a foundation for visual development, allowing generated images to be evaluated and refined against a consistent conceptual system. Through this process, AI functioned as a tool for visual exploration, while research and design direction remained the primary drivers of the final outcome.
